Floris Suite Hotel

Hotel Information: Popular with couples seeking utter tranquility, Floris Suite Hotel is quiet and uncrowded even when fully occupied. The pool deck is open to sunshine. Otherwise, tall tropical gardens designed by Venezuelan Diana Henriquez de Fernandez nearly obscure buildings, creating a jungle-like ambience of dappled shade and sun.

Amenity highlights: An irregularly shaped pool has a toddlers' section and a sundeck furnished with cushioned rattan lounge chairs and umbrellas. Guests also enjoy access to a private Caribbean beach 305 m (335 yds) away. A dive center on the beach offers snorkeling gear, scuba excursions, and scuba instruction and certification. A rustic restaurant at the beach hosts live music three nights weekly.

The Floris Suite Hotel offers 71 suites in three two-story wings connected by mahogany walkways on the upper floors and enveloped by tall tropical plants. Covered balconies or ground-floor terraces are furnished with dining sets and face the pool or gardens. Fully equipped kitchens or kitchenettes include marble counters, full-size mahogany-paneled refrigerators and separate freezers, microwave oven/grill combinations, and stovetops. Refrigerators are stocked as minibars on request.

Renowned Dutch designer Jan des Bouvrie employed sandstone-tiled floors, sheer white drapes, blue upholstered sofa beds and wing chairs, satin-finish lamps and hardware, and mahogany furniture, trim, and cabinetry to create a contemporary European ambience. Bathrooms include glassed-in showers or shower/tub combinations and Aveda toiletries.

Dining tables double as desks. High-speed Internet is available for a surcharge. TVs offer U.S./international cable channels. DVD players are available for rent.
